Licensed Software vs. Boxed Software?
One of our goals here at the Store is the commitment to getting the latest products and software while delivering a terrific value to our customers.
One of the most important ways that we are able to achieve this is through our dedicated Licensing staff. Through their efforts, we can get the same great software that is in the retail box editions at a fraction of the cost (often up to 75% off). Usually, the only difference is the packaging. Because of the significantly reduced pricing, the personal/student licensed editions are limited to one copy of each version per Penn State account. Most of the actual distributors impose these restrictions to prevent the software from being used outside of the educational setting, or being abused in some other way. When a new version is released (i.e. Adobe CS3, followed by CS4), you are eligible to purchase the updated product. So, by all means, do yourself a favor and buy the Licensed/Personal editions, the only real difference is the money in your pocket.
